Thank you for a wonderful Fifth Annual
Pennsylvania Youth Action Conference!
First held in 2011, the YAC has become Pennsylvania’s largest statewide gathering of LGBTQ youth. The conference is organized by the Pennsylvania Youth Congress community – and is open to all young Pennsylvanians. The 2016 YAC is dedicated to liberating LGBTQ people from violence. Our vision statement grounds us to hold this conference on the how we can end the assault, harassment, and murder against LGBTQ Pennsylvanians, particularly against queer and trans people of color, and toward the empowerment of a generation of LGBTQ youth leaders fighting for Beloved communities throughout our state.
Why This Meeting? The first Youth Action Conference was held in 2011 shortly following the establishment of the Pennsylvania Youth Congress, the first youth-led statewide LGBTQ organization in the nation. From this time on, the Pennsylvania Youth Action Conference has united young LGBTQ student leaders to strengthen our communities and the work toward social justice within our commonwealth. The committed leadership of our movement is composed of young LGBTQ people from schools and communities, from large cities to rural farmlands. With the united support of thousands of young Pennsylvanians, our advocacy provides remarkable new opportunities for our generation. The Pennsylvania Youth Action Conference is convened to coordinate our action, so that together, we can chart new goals and achieve a more unified sense of direction through expert trainings, policy briefings, and caucus meetings.
Who Will Attend? Young Pennsylvanians are invited from all areas of the commonwealth for this important meeting. Delegates from student organizations from across the state will be in attendance. We highly encourage those from LGBTQ student groups in high schools, colleges, and universities, as well from local community organizations, to join us. The YAC is organized to be a welcoming, safe, and supportive space by and for young people.
Schedule The conference will begin with a welcome reception on Friday, April 8th, 2016 at 6:00pm. Saturday will be devoted to policy briefings, expert trainings, workshops, caucuses, and committee work. The conference will end with a Closing Plenary on Sunday early afternoon. The full conference agenda is posted on this website.
